Why I Love Making Knives
The knifemakers best friend
There is something real satisfying about making knives. I don’t think of it as a job, I think of it as a hobby that has turned into a successful business. After many years of making knives I still love it. It is very satisfying to design and making something special for people – for themselves, or for a gift for someone else.
A Time-Honoured Tradition
Knives have been with us for a very long time and they have been essential to our survival. Making knives connects me to generations of craftsmen who have made them both for fun and for their livelihood.
Therapeutic & Meditative
The workshop is the place where I focus. Grinding, drilling, and sanding— it’s all rhythm and focus. There is no noise and clutter from the outside world – except for the podcasts and music that I listen to on my headphones. Once I get into a rhythm it all comes naturally and I don’t have to think about it… a bit like driving a familiar road.
Working With Steel, Wood, Synthetics and Leather
One of the things I love most is working with materials that have character. The uncompromising hardness of steel, the grain and pliability of wood, the modern synthetics that provide interest and beauty that you haven’t seen before, and the timeliness and familiarity of leather. Every material brings something to the table.

Bringing It All Together
Knife making is a craft of balance. It’s not just all about the blade. It is about the handle, the feel, the fit, the sheath. I enjoy that challenge - making something where form and function meet and where I create something that I would like to receive and use myself.
Each Knife is Different
No two knives are ever the same. That’s the beauty of handmade work. Every blade has its own look, its own feel, even its own story. I don’t make knives by the dozen, I make them to last and to be passed on to others in the future.
